Charleston Chew

Just got back from Va-cay in Charleston. At least that's what it's supposed to be called when you leave home to sleep elsewhere for a few days, don't have to cook or do housework, and are surrounded by opportunities for recreation to spend gobs of money.

When you do it with a toddler and infant in tow? Then it must be called something else entirely. Not sure what exactly, but definitely something other than "VACATION" comes to mind.

All I know is, I've never been so glad to come home to my own house (where I know the toilets are clean), sleep in my own bed (without a squirmy toddler kicking me and snoring into my ear all night), live on my own schedule (which includes at least one nap and a predictable bedtime for both kids) and eat meals that are free (or close to it) and don't include being on the receiving end of dirty looks from weary waitstaff or fellow diners who are either childless or have already forgotten what their own kids were like as babies.

I'm sure in a few days, when I have the energy to put it all in perspective (and get the fun pictures off my husband's laptop), I'll realize we had a blast and made some great memories, but right now, this picture of Emma on the carriage tour of the historical city of Charleston pretty much captures how we all feel.
