Liars and Theives and Bitches, OH MY!

Shit. I don't know what part of the real story behind the Abramoff investigation is most disgusting:

  • People like Abramoff, lying, theiving scumbags who peddle influence at the highest levels of power in this country

  • People like Scanlon and Rudy, cheating, amoral assholes who call themselves "Republicans" and thus give the entire party a foul name (and by the way, now that I know he was behind the impeach Clinton movement and why I'm even more convinced that it was--and is--a bigger reason the 2000 election that Democrats are out to get Bush at all costs--what an asshole that guy is! Yes, Clinton lied under oath, but actively working to spend billions of taxpayer dollars on a futile caes purely for spite? That kind of Karma will come back and bite you in the ass bigtime)

  • People like Miller who is the definiton of a whore. I don't care what supposedly high-class circles she runs in, the woman is a trollop. What else could you call someone who would literally "sell" her integrity to the highest bidder--in this case, the guy offering the 4 carat ring and multi-million-dollar beach house complete with monogrammed towels?

And to anyone who wants to cut her slack because she notified the ex-wife of Scanlon's newfound stolen wealth, remember that if he'd kept his promise to marry her, I'm sure she'd have been perfectly happy to keep the ex-wife in the dark about it all until the end of time (self-serving little bitch).

  • People like DeLay who--aside from being blissfully unaware of the soap-opera-esque drama going on under his nose and ostensibly on his behalf--FORGAVE this bitch her abhorrent behavior. Either he was being a Southern Gentleman to her face, but secretly called her by her proper name behind her back (hint: starts with a "C" and ends with an "unt"), or his moral compass has been thoroughly demagnetized too.

How painfully ironic that liberals are afraid that Republicans like DeLay are spying on little ol' you and me using the NSA warrantless wiretapping program? Puhleeze! This guy can't spot the spies in his own office, you really think he's capable of minding our business?

  • "Aides" and "Lobbyists" in general--I assume on both sides of the aisle--who lie for a LIVING and think it's not only normal, it's perfectly justifyable.

  • The rest of us, who allow it all to go on. Who was it who said "In a Democracy the people get the government they deserve"? Yeah, what he said. The very fact that we can sit around in our living rooms talking about lobbyists as though there are any who are not corrupt is pathetic. Think about what these people do: They take requests from someone with enough money to pay their obscenely high fees ($45M was what Abramoff charged the Indian tribes) and--regardless of their own personal beliefs--go about the business of persuading bribing politicians with fancy gifts and trips and other material rewards, or spreading lies or misinformation about someone (who has not paid a fee) so as to achieve the payee's goal.

What's worse, that they do all this or that they do it all without any personal investment in the outcome or the issue at stake? I'm hard pressed to answer that one!

Combine bribery, the protection rackets, high-stakes gambling and blackmail and you have LOBBYING. That it's legal at all is amazing to me. That we continue to allow it to be legal when we know full well what is going on, who is really shaping our future (hint: it's not our elected officials) is even more astounding. We are pathetic aren't we?

This is one thing I'll credit Clinton with actually--making the "lie" relative and benign. Relative to what you ask? Relative to who's hearing it and whether you got away with it or not. Benign how? Well, benign if you had a good reason for not wanting to get caught, even if that reason was completely self-serving, has nothing to do with protecting someone, sparing someone's feelings or any other "white lie" kind of thing.

Lying today--whether it's in politics or sports (witness Barry Bonds) is only wrong if you get caught. There's no reward for those who admit to a lie before being caught in it, and if there were, how would we know? No one does that. Instead, people add lie upon lie, deny that they lied in the first place until faced with a mountain of irrefutable evidence to the contrary, and then they simply shrug, look contrite and say they're sorry and we're all supposed to give them a virtual hug and accept their apology.

Disgusting, truly disgusting.
