Aaaargh! Another happy-go-lucky liberal wishing us all a happy turkey day self-indulgent feast. [Via Right Wing News
"One indication of moral progress in the United States would be the replacement of Thanksgiving Day and its self-indulgent family feasting with a National Day of Atonement accompanied by a self-reflective collective fasting.
...Not only is the thought of such a change in this white-supremacist holiday impossible to imagine, but the very mention of the idea sends most Americans into apoplectic fits -- which speaks volumes about our historical hypocrisy and its relation to the contemporary politics of empire in the United States. That the world's great powers achieved "greatness" through criminal brutality on a grand scale is not news, of course. That those same societies are reluctant to highlight this history of barbarism also is predictable.
...Simply put: Thanksgiving is the day when the dominant white culture (and, sadly, most of the rest of the non-white but non-indigenous population) celebrates the beginning of a genocide that was, in fact, blessed by the men we hold up as our heroic founding fathers."
That is, if his ancestors survived the poverty, squallor, disease, persecution, wars, etc... that there would have been no escape from (and no one to rescue them from) because our beloved country WOULDN'T HAVE EXISTED.
Happy THANKSGIVING to the rest of you sane people! Enjoy your turkey, trimmings, desserts piled high with artery-clogging ice-cream or whipped cream and football with the gusto they so richly deserve!
Posted by insomnomaniac at November 24, 2005 2:42 PMAs if there weren't already a Day of Atonement. Someone must have skipped out on Camparative Religions 101, or simply refuses to recognize holidays if there's a threat of a yarmulke putting in an appearance.
This is a symptom of the morbidity of modern leftist thinking - the sanctimony and the hatred of other people's happiness that render it ultimately non-viable. Sure it's appropriate to have a Day of Atonement. It's vile and pathological to use something of the sort as a method of preempting other holidays, seeking contagion for rage, and infecting others - through compulsion or bad example - with one's own guilt, misery, and self-hatred.
A liberalism that finds nothing to _celebrate_ and demands that everyone else desist from celebration to help them _mourn_ is sick in both senses of the word - diseased and sickening.
But I'm less mean than I sound. Happy Thanksgiving! Gratitude is a high and noble sentiment, and he who attempts to wrest it away from me - or even seeks to deprive me of my spatula - will have to pry it from my cold, dead hands.
Now I've got to get back to the celery and onions before they burn. I intend to eat too much.
