I love my readers! I know I have very few, but the ones I have are really great.
In response to my one post of the last couple of weeks, I received two great points that hadn't occurred to me when I was making my argument against gay marriage:
1. Stephen points out that if being gay is inborn, like being tall or short or something like that, it cannot be used as a justification for demanding certain rights or privileges. At least not any more than it can be used as a justification for discrimination, right? Unless you really buy into the argument that gay is the new black (as the "it's just like Rosa Parks" people would have us believe).
2. And Bleeding Brain points out that if being gay is a choice, and that choice is inconsistent with participation in certain activities, society is not obliged to alter itself to accomodate people's choices.
Again, it goes back to my point that marriage was conceived neither as means of compensating people for being born heterosexual, nor as a means of rewarding people for choosing to be!
When people honestly (and finally) examine WHY marriage came to be in our society, they will see clearly why so many people oppose gay marriage--even people who otherwise have nothing against homosexuals.
