what have we learned in 2002 kids?
Mike at Cold Fury posted a great summary of what the left would like us to have learned this past year.
Be sure to read the list at the link above, and its predecessor, Recap.
Looks like he was paying attention in class. Better go study up, you never know when their next pop-quiz might be!
Here are some of my favorites:
- The failure of negotiations and inspections to forestall NK's development of nuclear weapons in no way reflects on the likelihood of success for the same "strategy" in Iraq and elsewhere.
- The US has absolutely no right to interfere in the policies and decisions of foreign governments that are demonstrably hostile to us. But the US has not only the right but an absolute moral obligation to stop Israel from defending itself effectively against Palestinian suicide bombers, and to undermine other non-hostile governments when they do anything liberals don't like. US out of Iraq, and back into Bosnia instead. No blood for oil, but take all you need for any military adventures the UN deems worthwhile.
- Trent Lott is Beelzebub incarnate, and Robert Byrd is "the conscience of the Senate."
- Most of the nations of the free world can't field a remotely credible military force, preferring to spend their money on social welfare programs instead of defense. The US has for years shouldered the biggest share of the burden for the defense of France, Spain, Germany, the Scandinavian nations, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, and others. We have ten Nimitz-class carriers (two under construction), two Kitty Hawk-class, the Enterprise, and the JFK. The Nimitz-class carriers cost about 4.5 billion dollars each to build. France has one (1) carrier, the Foch, plus the Joanne D'Arc (a helicopter carrier) and four LPD's (Landing Platform, Dock). But it is only fair that France (among others) have a veto over any action, preemptive or otherwise, that the US might deem it necessary to take in its own defense. When the US does send its troops into harm's way under UN auspices, it is only right that military commanders from other nations have a say in things like ROE and other questions of where, when, and how our troops operate.
- The election and re-election of Bill Clinton were historical watersheds signalling the coming long-term political dominance of the 60's generation and its values. This past November's elections were a fluke.
- When we actually do stop shedding blood for oil, and a loaf of bead costs forty bucks at the grocery store and untold thousands are thrown out of work, this will be the fault of rich oil barons and other capitalists, and the only solution will be more state interference in our lives, aka socialism.
- A related note: it is perfectly fair to refer to Republicans/conservatives/right-wingers as "Nazis" and "Neanderthals;" it is vicious demagoguery and hate-speech to refer to Leftists who advocate a bigger and more powerful government as "Socialists." And referring to the Right as above is "debate" and "free speech;" referring to the Left as above is "stifling of dissent."
Go read the rest, they're fun and edumacational!
